About Recent Entries

Last post, perhaps? Jul. 21st, 2005 @ 05:26 pm
I think this journal is about dead.

This whole genre of communication tires me more that it rewards.

So I guess this is it.

BANG!!!

Things that are beyond suck:
The London bombing.
The thought that engaging them abroad keeps them from engaging us at home.
Bush.

Thing that beyond rock.
My friend on a timely vacation.

Thoughts of the week Jul. 6th, 2005 @ 06:24 pm
Things which definitely do not suck:
PBS retaining funding
Man in moscow who dressed up in drag to take a friends exam but got caught
Nasa successfully assaulting a comet
A Heart Breaking Work of Staggering Genius and by transitive property Dave Eggers
The PBS documentary about the last race for mayor of Newark
The possibility of seeing Wicked
The game on my new cellphone called Rivet
The rowing machines at the rec. center

Thing which definitely do not rock:
Comcast charging 122 dollars for dropping of cable boxes and a modem.
My reaction not being enantioselective
The fact I still need to write a monthly report for the boss
The waiting list for all the other exercise machines at the rec. center

Things in between sucking and rocking:
Alli losing her atm pin while in sweden and the ensuing instant message, having to call her mom, and the ensuing brainstorming session that resulted in the same answer we had before.

I wake up hazy with a face full of gravel. The ground is shaking and I spit a mixture of blood and stone. It's dark. I don't know if it's the absence of light or the fact that my eyes have yet to open. There is a plank and another and another; each pinned beneath two large metal bars. They're smooth and worn and now gleam. There are lights in the distance. Well one light. This is the point that I realize that I'm tied to the planks. I look for some sniveling evil do-er describing his dastardly plan, but if he's there he does not reveal himself. Plus, there’s sound. I can see the train coming. So, as with most things in life, I try to reason with it. Perhaps it didn’t want to leave Chattanooga going fifty-five miles an hour. Perhaps that’s what the terrorists wanted it to. Perhaps there is another train they left Pittsburgh going ninety-five miles and hour that’s on a collision course. Perhaps it does not want to have to do the paper work or undergo the cleaning that would be necessary due to its current velocity. This, as with most things in life, fails. I think apply what I learned in Physical Chemistry of Quantum Mechanics. One can never know the absolute position and velocity of an electron. So I spend a moment trying to guess its exact speed in hopes that the train would then appear somewhere else. Then a few moments I focus on precisely where it is and hopes that it forgets where it’s going. Now the train is precisely 30 feet away. (I counted the railroad planks, estimated their width, spacing and the curvature of the track. No biggy) So, I brace for impact. Realizing that knowing it's coming would not change the impact, I relax and wonder why I hadn’t eaten that cheesecake when I had the chance, why that firefly tried to mate with my charging cell phone, why kamikaze pilots wore helmets, why the ropes around me weren't tied tight enough, and why I hadn't noticed that there was another set of train tracks. I also wonder where in the woods I could get fresh underwear. Unshackled and unharmed, I realized that there are something’s you know are coming and can’t avoid, and that there are others that won’t hit you the way you thought they would.
